A hop, skip, and a jump from GM Place, home of Vancouver’s beloved Canucks (whose season recently came to an agonizing end for players and fans alike – many of whom would’ve given their left nut, as Sami #salostesticle did, to beat the Blackhawks), you’ll find Cafe Medina, located at 556 Beatty Street.

At the picturesque, brick-walled cafe, you’ll find espresso intense enough to numb sorrows. It’s rich, naturally sweet, and…nutty. Shown above is my extra large, creamy, Americano Soy Misto. I would not squirm against a doctor trying to hook me up to an intravenous drip of the stuff.
Chambar’s pastry chef, Eleanor Chow, is the genius behind the toppings to Cafe Medina’s other ‘drug’ and must-try – sickeningly delicious Belgian waffles, shown below with the favored raspberry caramel topping.

If you’re lucky enough to lack a sweet tooth, Medina’s menu is full of exotic savory options, too. Try the colorful Saumon Fume, an open-faced ciabatta sandwich with fried egg, smoked salmon, caper cream cheese, sliced avocado, arrugula pepperdew and artichoke salad.
Medina’s intoxicating effects may be the perfect antidote for the average Vancouver citizen’s post-season blues. Unlucky Sami’s no doubt taking something a little stronger.
