George Affleck

by Teresa

George, President and CEO of Curve Communications, lives, works, and breathes Yaletown. He has been a pillar of this popular neighborhood for over 10 years now. He is a down to earth entrepreneur can be found grabbing a joe at the local coffee shops or checking out the restaurant rooftops on Mainland. This devoted dad is also everyone’s Boss dream come true. He encourages his staff to lead balanced lives which explains regular sightings of them at local fitness studios like Bar Method, dining at Goldfish Restaurant, or primping at Pure Nail Bar. George also practices what he preaches: he was quoted in The Vancouver Sun saying “Weekends are about soccer and karate and voice lessons, or just something spontaneous. I like it. I like to be around my kids all the time.”

Meet George

Name:
George Affleck

What do you do?
I am President and CEO of Curve Communications, a full service Marketing and PR company

How long have you lived / worked in Yaletown?
10 years for both

Best place to get lunch:
Keg rooftop on the weekend in the Summer. But you can’t beat Hardeep’s Butter Chicken at Bean Around the World below my office. Convenient, close and delicious.

Best place for dinner:
Goldfish of course.

What’s the one thing about Yaletown that only a local would know of ?
That my three kids are not the only kids here. And if you want to meet some of the Canuck’s kids, go to David Lam Park. Listen for Swedish.

One word to describe Yaletown:
Home

Who was your first celebrity sighting in Yaletown?
Eric McCormack at the height of his career at the Yaletown Brew Pub (before management ruined it). He was very nice and a few of my staff hung out with him for quite awhile that night.

What’s the one thing you like about Yaletown?
Access to great restaurants that are close to work and home.

What’s the one thing you don’t like about Yaletown?
Shootings, stabbings, barfing and rioting at Boss Nightclub on Richards Street. Please tell someone at the City Hall to close that place down.

You wish Yaletown had
a High School. Kits is a bit of hike for the kids.

You wish Yaletown had less of..
(see Boss Nightclub note above)

What is Yaletown missing?
Old-school pubs. Sometimes you just want a pint at a regular pub.

Favourite memory being in Yaletown:
My family and my business. Yaletown is my small town in the centre of my city.
