LeLe Chan

by Teresa

LeLe Chan is a creative Celebration Connoisseur. Her wedding and event planning business, Le Soirees, is about bringing style and sophistication to your special event. She knows her PR and event planning well as she leverages from her three years experience in the PR industry and her work as a Conference & Event Planner for the Vancouver Island Health Authority. LeLe is also an interdisciplinary designer who brings her crafty talents to Thumbsuckers, a cute modern design line for tots. When not planning elegant events or creating cute wear for the wee, this busy mom also takes care of two pretty princesses. She creates grand events, crafts cute clothes, changes diapers, and chases toddler…and she does it all with her supportive husband by her side.

Meet LeLe.

Name
Alethea “LéLé” Chan, but everyone just calls me LéLé (pronounced LayLay). I don’t even answer to Alethea, it sounds so formal.

What do you do?
I started Lé Soirées 4 years ago so I could put smiles on people’s faces by helping them throw fantastic parties. I also design a line of children’s accessories and blankets. Thumbsuckers Designs is labour of love that my sister and I started together. Lately I’ve been ‘marrying’ our two companies by doing customized/themed birthday parties for children.

How long have you lived / worked in Yaletown?
I grew up in Vancouver, but lived in Victoria for the last six years. I moved back with my husband and 2 daughters, four months ago.

Best place to get lunch:
Kiisu Sushi is my favourite. The food is always delicious and authentic, and the service is wonderful. Salsa & Agave Mexican Grill is a great one too.

Best place for dinner:
It depends on what mood I’m in. Hapa Izakaya never lets me down and Blue Water Cafe is fantastic.

What’s the one thing about Yaletown that only a local would know of?
That it may be the “trendy” part of town, but it’s also the most child-friendly part of downtown. There are so many playgrounds, green spaces, and stroller-friendly walk ways! It’s a great affirmation to my firm belief that you can be a parent and still be cool.

One word to describe Yaletown:
Stylish

Who was your first celebrity sighting in Yaletown?
Jaime Pressly, and she’s super friendly.

What’s the one thing you like about Yaletown?
The convenience of everything I need being only a short stroll away. I love not having to drive everywhere.

What’s the one thing you don’t like about Yaletown?
All the construction! I know it’s necessary and will improve the neighbourhood, but it just seems to be everywhere right now. The streets are narrow enough without the sidewalk or road closures, and massive trucks.

You wish Yaletown had more of….
Children’s boutiques.

You wish Yaletown had less of….
Temptations! From the cute boutiques, to the delicious restaurants and yummy cafe’s…it’s hard to just go out for a “walk”.

What is Yaletown missing?
A restaurant or cafe with kid-space. I love the concept of Munch: The Family Restaurant in North Vancouver, and of Crumsby’s Cupcake Cafe in Victoria. I wish there were something similar here, a place for great food, great coffee, and great play-space for the kidlets.

Favourite memory being in Yaletown:
Summer strolls along the seawall with my family. This is a beautiful city. The Movie in The Park was awesome too. We should have more of those.
