Stay local this holiday season

by admin

A funny thing happened on the way to Vasanji’s 20 year anniversary party last week. THEY WERE CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!

I don’t think in any way that this is funny in a ha! ha! type of way but it was rather peculiar seeing the Vasanji space completely empty with a sign on the door saying thanks for the business over years and see us at our other store in White Rock. All this on a night that was supposed to be a glamorous night of shopping, fashion, and festivities that was to continue to rock on late at Fiasco’s.

Luckily, Fine Finds Boutique picked up the pieces and took over the hosting duties which happened to be right next door. The photo booth, food, and beverages, and of course some great shopping was had however throughout the evening an acute ear would continually hear the whispers of “what happened to Visanji?”

So what did happen to Visanji?

Simply put. They are out of business and have decided to focus on their other location in White Rock. Think about this for a minute. Visanji…closed. This place was a Yaletown institution that offered some great unique fashions and I for one and sad to see them go.

I loathe malls, the big American box stores (Robson Street) and whenever I can, I go out of my way to support the local small guy, whether it be in the coffee I drink, the clothes I buy…everything. It is more important than ever this season to support your local small business, cause one day, they just may not be there!

Challenge yourself this Christmas season. Stay out of the malls, stay off of Robson Street, and visit the neighborhoods and local shops of Vancouver that make this great city so unique.

This concludes this public service announcement.

We firmly believe in supporting local business here in Yaletown. There are a ton of great shops. A personal favorite is Brooklyn Clothing Co. Happy Holidays from all of us at the Yaletown Blog!
